Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies the response. Jefferson County Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be kept so the site team can respond. It remains within the organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the servers may automatically receive basic technical information about the visit:
- Page-view times and dates
- The referring site, when one is reported
- Pages opened and the time spent on them
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The device's IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help measure site use, such as which pages receive traffic and where visits end. Analytics providers combine those measurements into traffic reports. A visitor may block cookies through browser settings, though doing so can change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing errors and other technical faults
- Measuring which pages are useful and which need improvement
- Operating the site and maintaining page performance
- Routing a query to the selected search provider
- Displaying advertising that may reflect a visitor's interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Jefferson County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal-history information. It publishes general directions to records held by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, county courts, Pennsylvania State Police Central Repository, and Pennsylvania State Police Megan's Law Public Website. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not used to create a consumer report or a file about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Independent companies operate the search boxes shown on some pages. Information submitted through one of those tools is subject to that company's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each partner controls its retention and disclosure practices. Visitors should read those terms before running a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Pennsylvania state agencies, Jefferson County offices, court portals, legal-aid resources, and outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this website, the destination's privacy rules control. Review them before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may measure activity across websites to select ads. That processing occurs on the provider's systems.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal information is not sold. It may be disclosed to the following recipients when needed:
- Government bodies or law enforcement acting under a valid legal order
- Advertising networks that serve ads on the pages
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Search providers that process a query submitted through their tool
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for information the site receives. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed secure, however, so Jefferson County Criminal History cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If the team learns that a minor supplied such data, it will be deleted.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary with a visitor's location and applicable law. Pennsylvania's Right-to-Know Law, 65 P.S. §§ 67.101–67.3104, governs access to records held by public agencies rather than this private website. The Criminal History Record Information Act, 18 Pa.C.S. §§ 9101–9183, separately controls criminal-history dissemination and gives a person a right to review and challenge their own state criminal-history information under § 9151. For visitor data held by this site, a person may:
- Object to certain forms of processing
- Request deletion of personal data
- Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- Request a copy of personal information held about them
